Role Summary

The role of the Payroll Officer is focused around the end-to-end management of the fortnightly payroll process for our 1700+ employee organisation. The role is responsible for communicating with payroll team and for educating and training operational stakeholders on the payroll process/system. The role takes responsibilty on responding to queries from staff and stakeholders around payroll and for the ongoing interpretation of several awards and enterprise bargaining agreements. You would also work closely with the Senior Payroll Officer to identify areas and opportunities for process and operational improvement and to present these as recommendations. There is also the responsibility of ensuring that record keeping is maintained at a very high standard and that statutory and compliance requirements are met within the organisation. 

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Award interpretation - SCHADS, Aged Care and Nurses Awards and Enterprise bargaining agreements 
  • Managing superannuation, reconciliations, PAYG and all associated reporting
  • Processing the fortnightly payroll for a 1700+ person organisation
  • Liaising with management and stakeholders across the business to discuss payroll related matters

 

This role is being hired on a permanent full time basis and is located at our central office in Belmont.  

Skills, Attributes and Experience

Our ideal candidate will have significant previous experience working in payroll within a large, complex organisation, ideally within the health care sectors. They will be a strong analytical thinker who finds it easy to pay attention to details and who is able to multitask effectively. They will be consistently inquisitive and have the demonstrated confidence and capabilities to be a leader and a decision maker. They will use these skills to challenge the status quo, solve problems effectively and communicate changes to key stakeholders. Our ideal candidate will be familiar with the pressures and constraints that exist within large, complex service delivery organisations and utilise their effective time management and communication skills to achieve results and keep all their key stakeholders happy.  

Key Requirements

  • Proficiency and aptitude with technology including SAP and Microsoft applications
  • Significant payroll experience, ideally within a large and complex organisation
  • Experience with interpreting awards such as SCHADS, Aged Care Award, Nurses Award and Enterprise bargaining agreements is highly desirable, but not essential
  • Previous experience with the administration of payroll systems is highly desirable, but not essential
