Role Summary

Our Maintenance Officer provides quality maintenance and gardening services to the Guildford Village facility, hostel and surrounding grounds. You'll be responsible for typical duties such as maintaining garden beds, lawn mowing, reticulation maintenance, overseeing maintenance contractors, pruning, window cleaning and anything else of a similar nature that is required. In providing these services to the facility, you will play a crucial role in bettering the lives of our residents and contributing to creating a homely environment for them.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Perform general building, property, and grounds maintenance across the facility
  • Undertake minor gardening tasks (weeding, pruning, spraying, litter collection)
  • Collect and prepare materials and equipment for maintenance jobs
  • Move, assemble, and adjust furniture as required
  • Conduct minor repairs: painting, patching, joinery, carpentry, locks, tiles, fixtures, fittings
  • Unblock sinks and toilets; perform basic plumbing repairs
  • Respond promptly to urgent and emergency repair requests
  • Oversee and inspect work by external contractors (plumbers, electricians, etc.)
  • Ensure compliance with Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) policies
  • Participate in team meetings, training, and continuous improvement initiatives

 

This role is being hired on a permanent full-time basis and works out of our facility in Guildford! 

Skills, Attributes and Experience

  • Previous experience in building and/or grounds maintenance
  • Valid driver’s licence (including ability to tow and reverse a trailer)
  • Physically fit and able to perform manual and heavy tasks
  • Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in varying conditions
  • Strong commitment to safety, reliability, and high-quality workmanship
  • Honest, reliable, and able to work independently or as part of a team

 

Desirable 

 

  • Trade qualifications (carpentry, painting, plumbing, or similar)
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to use initiative
  • Basic computer skills (email, maintenance systems)
